Christine and the Queens Chris

Christine and the Queens detail new album 'Chris,' share "Doesn't Matter"

Christine and the Queens (aka Héloïse Letissier) returned earlier this year with the new single “Girlfriend” (featuring Dam-Funk), which was presumably the first taste of her anticipated sophomore album. Now that album has been announced — it’s called Chris and it comes out September 21 via Because Music — and Héloïse released the album’s second single, “Doesn’t Matter.” It’s a very promising dose of thoughtful alt-pop, and you can check it out via its video (directed by Colin Solal Cardo, produced by La Blogothèque) below.

Like Christine and the Queens’ great debut album, there will be an English version and a French version of Chris. You can hear the French version of “Doesn’t Matter” — titled “Doesn’t matter (voleur de soleil)” — below too. Héloïse premiered the new song on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show and she talked to him a bit about Chris:

I mean, even the act of actually you know striking out the rest of Christine and the Queens for just a Chris to emerge is a sense of me being a bit more confident exposed and upfront. And there is a sense of like, owning an empowering empowerment coming through the way that suddenly you accept of being you know out in the open and exposed and giving more.

[…] I could see muscles emerge. I was becoming more of a powerful female right. And with that interesting new narratives came into my life because I used to be quite recused before and solitary and now I was just like you know blasting up tracks and it changes relationship to desire as well. You kind of become a bit more. You know I was I was watching documentaries of Madonna in the 90s like kind of you know being unapologetically strong onstage and then after that demanding people you know to have interactions with her. I think I could relate to that at some point I was like you know I have. I’m receiving so much energy I’m kind of oozing it now.

You can hear the whole interview below.

Christine and the Queens are also touring, including Brooklyn Steel shows on Halloween (sold out) and November 1 (tickets). All dates are listed below.
