Coachella 2017 lineup announced

coachella-poster

Coachella has announced its 2017 lineup which includes leaked headliners Radiohead, Beyonce, and Kendrick Lamar, plus The xx, New Order, Bon Iver, The Avalanches, Roisin Murphy, Royksopp, Future Islands, Lorde, Justice, Real Estate, Mac DeMarco, Phantogram, Schoolboy Q, Future, Guided by Voices, Mitski, Car Seat Headrest, Nicolas Jaar, Tycho, Warpaint, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Lemon Twigs, S U R V I V E, Tacocat, and more. The full lineup is in the poster above and typed out below. Coachella 2017 happens across two weekend — April 15-16 and April 21-23 — and tickets go on sale Wednesday, January 4 at 11 AM PST.

It’s the first announced US show for The Avalanches in 15 years, after releasing their long-awaited sophomore album in 2016 and needing to cancel some tour dates due to health issues. Hopefully everything works out this time (and hopefully they add more US shows).

The Avalanches play day 2, which might be the strongest/most exciting day. With Beyonce, Bon Iver, Schoolboy Q, Nicolas Jaar, Mitski, and Car Seat Headrest, that day looks a lot like 2016 year-end lists. Not to mention it’s got Future, Four Tet, Thundercat, Floating Points, Roisin Murphy, Royksopp, Tycho, Warpaint, S U R V I V E and rap duo Swet Shop Boys (HEEMS & actor Riz Ahmed of ‘The Night Of’ fame).

On day 1, the band billed right before Radiohead is fellow Brits The xx, who have an anticipated new album out this month. It’s also the first announced North American date of 2017 for The xx, and more can’t be far behind. There’s not much in the way of loud rock on Coachella this year, but day 1 gives you a dose of that from Guided by Voices. It’s also got two of the more exciting small-font rappers on the fest, Florida’s Denzel Curry and the UK’s Stormzy.

Some cool, unique highlights of day 3 include legendary film composer Hans Zimmer, Nigerian singer King Sunny Ade, soul lifer Lee Fields, reggae vets Toots and the Maytals, and indie folk singer Devendra Banhart. That day is currently billing punk-rap band Show Me the Body, (who tweeted that they never agreed to play but later tweeted that actually they are playing).

In case you didn’t know, Banks & Steelz is Interpol singer Paul Banks with Wu-Tang Clan member RZA, and DREAMCAR is 3/4 of No Doubt (everyone but Gwen Stefani) with AFI singer Davey Havok.
