Australian artist Hatchie remixed by Cocteau Twins' Robin Guthrie, playing SXSW, NYC & LA

Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, Hatchie (real name Harriette Pilbeam) has a sound that’s one part ’90s shoegaze and one part straight-ahead pop. It’s a swirling miasma of big hooks and harmony filled choruses — think a modern update of The Sundays or The Cranberries circa their first LP. Her debut single “Try” got the attention of Australia’s influential station Triple J and by the time of her second single, the shimmering “Sure,” she’d made a fan of one of her heroes, Robin Guthrie of The Cocteau Twins. Guthrie has now remixed “Sure,” adding a half-dozen or so more layers of guitar without burying the melody. That remix premieres in this post and you can listen, along with the original and “Try,” below.

Hatchie, who will release her debut EP later this year, is heading to the US for SXSW and after the fest will play Los Angeles’s Bardot on March 19 with Flyte (tickets); and then NYC’s Mercury Lounge on March 22 with Montreal’s Men I Trust (tickets).
