Comedy Bang! Bang! LIVE! touring this fall including two NYC shows (dates)
Listen; the concept of 'funny' is subjective and I am not here to tell you what to do or what to like; I am only here to guide you and simply make suggestions using my immense and throbbing sense of comedic taste. I'm no shill and will never steer you wrong. Ever. So when I say that the great Scott Aukerman is taking his show Comedy Bang! Bang! on the road for two weeks including TWO SHOWS at NYU's Skirball Center on Saturday October 12 and that you should make every effort to catch one of these shows, you better prick up your ears son because this is something abso-tutely not to be missed.
As far as comedians of my generation go, Scott Aukerman has some serious pedigree and is currently one of the most important figures in the comedy community. He fell taint-first onto my radar back when he was a writer and performer for Mr. Show with Bob and David. Since those glorious days, Aukerman has found success as a comedy writer, performer, producer, and maverick podcaster. Back in 2009, he took his, by that point, legendary live comedy show (that he started doing in 2002), Comedy Death Ray, to the airwaves on Los Angeles radio station Indie 103.1 before eventually moving over to the ole podcast medium. In May 2011 Aukerman renamed the show Comedy Bang Bang and just over a year later (June 8, 2012), IFC premiered the television series Comedy Bang! Bang! with Reggie Watts as co-host, house band, man of hair. And just so you know Aukerman is also 50% of the brains (alongside BJ Porter) behind the simply perfect Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis.
The Comedy Bang! Bang! LIVE! tour will feature opening sets by The Birthday Boys, who are a Los Angeles comedy group whose new IFC sketch show will premiere this October, and the great, also legendary, and also ex-Mr.Show alum PAUL. F. TOMPKINS(!). Comedy Bang! Bang! Live! will feature a mix of live stand-up, character cameos, and improvisational games along with sneak peek clips from the series. Also, parts of each performance will be taped for Scott's popular Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast. Also joining Scott will be a rotating cast of Comedy Bang! Bang! regulars. Contrary to what you might read online the NYU Skirball shows ARE NOT SOLD OUT! There are still some, though few, tickets left.
