Common part of new supergroup August Greene, playing BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Fest's 2018 kickoff

While they haven’t revealed the full 2018 BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival lineup yet, they have just announced that the season’s opening show will be Common on Tuesday, June 5 at the Prospect Park Bandshell. That’s a free show, with doors at 6:30 PM.

Other announced Celebrate Brooklyn! shows: The Decemberists and M Ward on June 13 (tickets), and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead on July 19 (tickets).  Stay tuned for the full lineup.

Lake Street Dive opened BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn’s 2017 season, and the late Sharon Jones kicked off the 2016 season. As usual, before the opening concert there is the annual gala which this year honors BRIC President Leslie Griesbach Schultz. BRIC is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Meanwhile, Common is part of new supergroup August Greene which also includes Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins. The trio won an Emmy last year for the song “Letter to the Free,” from Netflix documentary 13th and their self-titled debut album will be released March 9 exclusively on Amazon.They’ve released a cover of The Sounds of Blackness’ 1991 song “Optimistic” which features Brandy.
