Complex's Top 50 Albums of 2017
Best of the Year season continues with Complex‘s 50 best albums of 2017. As always, Complex’s list is heaviest on rap and R&B, so it makes room for great rap albums that you might not see on the big multi-genre lists — like Rapsody‘s Laila’s Wisdom, Freddie Gibbs‘ You Only Live 2wice, GoldLink‘s At What Cost, A$AP Twelvyy‘s 12, Amine‘s Good For You,
Young Dolph‘s Thinking Out Loud, and Smino‘s blkswn — along with the usual heavy hitters like Kendrick Lamar‘s DAMN., Jay-Z‘s 4:44, SZA‘s CTRL, Migos‘ Culture, and Vince Staples‘ Big Fish Theory. Future makes the list twice (both in the top 15). Complex usually has a few indie rock picks worked in, but this year they stayed away from that. They did include some alt-pop (and just regular pop) though, like Haim, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Kesha, Charli XCX, and Harry Styles.
