"I'm gonna put in my earplugs," Ira Kaplan told the crowd in Union Pool's back patio on Sunday. "I suggest you do the same." It was good advice. Yo La Tengo were playing as their the Condo Fucks cover band alter-ego as part of Union Pool's free Summer Thunder series and it was loud as hell -- maybe the loudest show I've heard in the back patio since Destruction Unit -- and the patio was as packed as I've ever seen it, with a line to get in that stretched down Meeker and onto Skillman. With temperatures nearly 90 degrees, it was also meltingly hot but a super fun time as they tore through covers by The Beach Boys ("Wild Honey"), Wire ("Former Airline"), The Hollies ("Sorry Suzanne"), The Kinks ("It's Too Late"), Television Personalities ("Look Back in Anger"), Roky Erickson ("Bermuda), The Glands ("Grey Hats"), The Troggs ("With a Girl Like You," the only song from Condo Fucks' 2009 album they played), and more. 75 Dollar Bill's Rick Brown joined them for a song, and Che Chen and other members of the band came out to close out the set with The Fugs' Frenzy."

75 Dollar Bill were the afternoon's headliners and Rick and Che were augmented with four other musicians for a killer set of bluesy drone. Yo La Tengo joined them for the last number of the day. You can check out a few pics in the gallery above and the setlist and a few instagrams below.
