Continental Bar sets closing date, throwing farewell party

East Village institution, dive bar, and former punk/metal venue Continental announced it would be closing a year ago, having originally set a final date of July 1, but then got a three month extension which it is now past. Owner Trigger Smith has now announced that Continental’s final day selling five shots of anything for $12 will be December 15. The last hurrah will be an event, with the bar enlisting D Generation’s Jesse Malin (who owns Coney Island Baby, Niagra, Berlin and more) to “to make the grand finale something extra special,” as Trigger told Page Six. Veteran nightlife producers Steve Lewis and Vito Bruno will also be helping out. Stay tuned for details.
