Nashville trio Country Westerns are led by Joey Plunket, who left NYC 10 years ago after being in bands Gentleman Jesse & His Men and The Weight. He started the band with drummer Brian Kotzur -- who had played in Silver Jews and both starred in and scored Harmony Korine's Trash Humpers -- with the idea of playing "depressing songs with fun drums" and then added Sabrina Rush on bass. That descriptor is certainly right but more to the point and as their name hints, Country Westerns make twangy rock n' roll with a punk energy that is in the same tradition as The Replacements or Old '97s or Bottle Rockets. The band's debut album was produced by Chavez's Matt Sweeney and he's managed to capture their raw, urgent energy. As you can hear in barn-burner new single "Anytime," which premieres in this post. Listen below.

Country Westerns' debut album will be out May 1 via Fat Possum and the band have tour dates on the horizon, including some East Coast shows right after the album's out, including Philly, Kingston, Boston, DC, Richmond and Brooklyn's Union Pool on May 14. All dates are listed below.
