Courtney Barnett, Twerps & more Australian artists contributing to marriage equality mixtape

The Australian government is currently conducting a national survey to see whether its citizens think same sex couples should be allowed to get married. Nearly 11 million Australians have returned the non-binding survey already — 16 million were sent out and don’t have to be returned till November 7. A Newspoll of those who have returned the survey has it at 59% to 38% in favor of same sex marriage.

To raise awareness for marriage equality and to drive the “Yes” message, a campaign has been launched: “Thirty Days of Yes: A Mixtape for Marriage Equality” where a new exclusive song by an Australian artist is released every day in October. Artists so far include Twerps, Beaches, Guy Blackman, The Murlocs, Hockey Dad and more, with tracks from Courtney Barnett, Terry, Jen Cloher and more still to be revealed. 100% of the profits from subscriptions to the mixtwape will go to LGBTQI+ youth organizations, Minus18 and Twenty10.

You can stream the first 17 tracks from “Thirty Days of Yes” below.

Courtney Barnett is currently on tour in North America with Kurt Vile and their all-star band The Sea Lice, including shows at Loew’s Jersey Theatre November 6 (tickets) and a sold-out show at NYC’s Beacon Theatre on November 1.
