Craig Finn made a map of all the places he mentions in songs, played 'Seth Meyers'

The Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn released his latest solo album, I Need A War, last week via Partisan, and if you haven’t heard it yet, it’s very worth checking out. It’s got plenty of the Springsteen influence that Craig Finn’s always had, but it’s also a prettier, more lush-sounding album for him and incorporates elements of lots of other stuff, from synthpop to country rock and beyond. Craig also just performed its song “Something To Hope For” on Late Night with Seth Meyers, joined by his eight-piece band featuring backup singers, a horn section, and more, and they sounded great. Watch video of that performance and stream the whole album below.

Craig also celebrated the release of the album by launching a website with an annotated map that details all the places mentioned in the lyrics of his four solo albums. There’s commentary by Craig, and “riddles, a cool geo game, and even some Easter Eggs…” As NPR points out, somebody had previously done the same for The Hold Steady (update: who we now realize is the same person who made this new map with Craig).

Craig is also gearing up for a tour, including NYC shows at Joe’s Pub on June 12 (tickets) and June 13 (tickets). All dates are listed below.

Meanwhile, The Hold Steady have US shows coming up in May: headlining shows in Jersey City and Hamden, CT, and a Boston show opening for Frank Turner. Their latest single is “The Last Time That She Talked To Me.”
