Cro-Mags release first new music in 19 years on Victory Records
After a long battle with John Joseph (and Mackie Jayson), Harley Flanagan got “exclusive ownership” to the Cro-Mags name (John and Mackie’s band is now called Cro-Mags JM), and now Harley has released the first new Cro-Mags music since 2000’s Revenge. The band signed to Victory Records (who seem to be sort of making a comeback in the world of veteran hardcore musicians, having also recently signed Dave Smalley’s band Don’t Sleep), and today they released three new singles on the label, “Don’t Give In,” “Drag You Under,” and “No One’s Victim.” Along with Harley, the lineup for these songs includes Gabby Abularach (who played on Cro-Mags’ 1992 album Alpha Omega and 1993 album Near Death Experience), Rocky George (who played on Revenge and in Suicidal Tendencies and Fishbone), and drummer Garry Sullivan. The songs aren’t bad at all, and they pretty much pick up where Revenge (which Harley also did lead vocals for) left off, with the cleaner, more modern production style of that album and the kind of crossover thrash riffage they’ve been perfecting since day one. Cro-Mags are opening all four of the reunited Misfits‘ upcoming shows, including LA this Saturday (6/29). After that, they’re doing a headlining Europe tour with Red Death and playing Las Vegas in the fall. All dates are listed below.
