Crying

Crying streaming 2 tracks off debut LP, playing release show w/ Radiator Hospital

Last year, New York trio Crying branched off from the chiptune-meets-pop-punk of their early EPs and went full Rush with their single “Patriot.” That song will appear on their debut album Beyond The Fleeting Gales, which drops October 14 via Run For Cover, and it looks like it won’t be the only time they explore those kinds of sounds. Two more singles are out from it so far, and both are very much inspired by ’80s AOR. There’s still plenty of Rush, no lack of Van Halen, and a handful of other sounds pulled from VH1 Classic and Classic Rock Radio. The latest, “Revive,” is especially Van Halen-esque, but Elaiza Santos’ indie rock-style vocals help turn it into its own beast. And there’s still some pop punk in there too (don’t hate me for this, but one part reminds me of Less Than Jake’s “The Ghosts Of Me And You”). Listen to “Revive” and “Wool in the Wash,” and check out the tracklist, below. That’s the very ’70s-prog-looking album artwork above.

As mentioned, Crying are on the upcoming Joyce Manor / The Hotelier tour, which is one killer bill for people who like rock music. That tour lands in NYC on October 18 for a sold-out show at Music Hall of Williamsburg. All dates are listed below.

UPDATE: After that tour, Crying will play a hometown album release show at Shea Stadium on November 5 with the great Radiator Hospital, plus Foozle and Long Beard. Tickets are on sale.
