Crystal Stilts are busy working on their fourth album, but have just released a stopgap single, “Delirium Tremendous,” which is out today digitally via Sacred Bones. Says guitarist JB Townsend:

The song is, in my mind, a real quintessential Stilts track. It also acts as a fulcrum from our last record, which is relatively delicate, to our next record that will be more rocking. It’s representative of our style without sounding like a copy of previous songs. It really takes a deeper look into 1970’s New York punk traditions, complete with actual garbage can percussion. The bridge is a near death taking you half way into heaven or hell, but then life takes you back to the city.

With scratchy strumming that contributes more to the rhythm, and bass and keyboards driving the melody — plus a middle section unlike anything they’ve ever done — this is probably the band’s best single since “Love is a Wave” back in 2009. Stream it below.

The new single is to also help promote Crystal Stilts tour this month which will wrap up here in Brooklyn at Baby’s All Right on June 27. Christines and Honey are also on the bill and tickets for that show are on sale now.
