Cursive

Cursive back w/ original drummer & Mike Mogis for new LP, share song, touring

Cursive have been busy over the past few years with stuff like launching their own record label and playing The Ugly Organ in full, and frontman Tim Kasher has also been busy with stuff like releasing a new solo album and film, and releasing a new Good Life album, but Cursive haven’t released their own new album since 2012’s I Am Gemini. That finally changes this year, with the release of new album Vitriola on October 5 via the band’s label, 15 Passengers (pre-order).

This is Cursive’s first album with original drummer Clint Schnase and longtime co-producer Mike Mogis since 2006’s Happy Hollow (Clint had been replaced by Cully Symington, who is now in Beach Slang). They also brought in touring cellist Megan Siebe, making this Cursive’s first album with cello since The Ugly Organ. The first single is “Life Savings,” which kind of sounds like a cross between the more frantic sounds of earlier Cursive and the more subdued sound of the last couple Cursive albums. “I was really wanting to go back to that raw emotional feeling that I used to get, how I wrote the first couple Cursive records when I was a younger man,” Tim Kasher told NPR. “I would suggest that that was a little bit easier this time, with so much avarice and bile that we were all experiencing. [It] felt natural for me to just go with that.” Listen below.

Cursive are playing The Fest in Gainesville this October. More tour dates presumably TBA.
