Cynthia Plaster Caster, the "super groupie" who made casts of rock star penises, has died

Cynthia Albritton, the artist and onetime “super groupie” more famously known as Cynthia Plaster Caster, who was famous for making plaster casts of rock musicians’ penises and breasts, has died after a long illness, reports Variety. She was 74.

Among the many who agreed to let Cynthia make molds from parts of their bodies included Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Eric Burdon, The Buzzcocks‘ Pete Shelley, MC5‘s Wayne Kramer, Mekons‘ Jon Langford, Jello Biafra, Television‘s Richard Lloyd, The Jesus Lizard‘s David Yow, and more. In 2000 she started making molds of breasts, and subjects included Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O, L7‘s Suzi Gardner, Stereolab‘s Laetitia Sadier, Mekons‘ Sally Timms, cult singer Jan Terri, and more.

Cynthia inspired KISS song “Plaster Caster” (from their album Love Gun, of course) and Jim Croce‘s “Five Short Minutes.” The 2000 documentary Plaster Caster shed light on Cynthia’s life and many famous subjects. You can watch the trailer below.
