Damon Albarn crowned a "local King" of Mali

Damon Albarn has a long history of being active in Africa and in African music. After a recent performance in Mali, Albarn has been given the status of “local king” in recognition of his work with Malian music and given a Malian name for his efforts, which is “Makandjan Kamissoko.” So we can all call him that now.

Damon also recently visited a music school in a small Malian village which opened a new classroom in his name. He’s also supposedly working on a new Gorillaz album, so keep an eye out for that.
