Daniel Avery on tour with Nine Inch Nails; watch a trippy video from his new EP

Daniel Avery is currently on tour with Nine Inch Nails and the Jesus and Mary Chain, having played the second Radio City show and both Kings Theatre shows here in NYC. He’ll wrap things up on Friday (10/19) in Boston, but then will be back in a month to open for NIN/JAMC in the Dallas Area. If you’re going to those shows, do get there early and check him out. Dates are below.

Back in April, Daniel released his sophomore album, Songs for Alpha, via Mute, which is techno-informed dance music with an interstellar, ethereal outlook. One of the songs from that LP, “Diminuendo,” is the centerpiece of a new EP on Mute/Phantasy that includes three new tracks. He’s made a video for the closing track, “Time Marked Its Irregular Pulse In Her Eyes,” which is the biggest head-trip on the EP. It was directed by Tom Andrew and Sam Davis, who previously made Daniel’s amazing “Glass” video, and it can be seen as a direct sequel, picking up where it left off. The directors offer this synopsis:

Where ‘Glass’ explored a shared state of mind in a club environment, based on a quote of Avery’s, describing “…those moments in a club when the outside world becomes little more than an inconsequential thought…” This video follows the journey of the of the girl in the closing shot of ‘Glass’, who is seen making her way to the door, through the crowd and strobes, as the night is ending.

When alone the sense of space is apparent and filled by the imprinted atmosphere of the night on her mind. Vivid recollections are mixed with the empty present as her mind is home to an internal blend of brilliantly graphic sights and sounds.

Watch the new video and the “Glass” video, and stream the Diminuendo EP, below.
