Daughter release new album 'Not To Disappear' (listen to it)

London trio Daughter follow their 2013 debut If You Leave today with Not To Disappear on Glassnote/4AD. They recorded with producer Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, War On Drugs, Animal Collective) in Brooklyn, and it’s a very pretty sounding album. Almost the entire thing is slow and minimally arranged, but the album’s real strong point is its lyrics. Singer/guitarist Elena Tonra sounds like she wrote it during a sad time in her own life, and it’s the kind of thing you’ll want to hear when you’re wallowing in your own sadness too. Perfect listening for those dimly lit, post-midnight nights alone in your bedroom. Her words are deeply personal — take “No Care,” which would stand out anyway for being the album’s only consistently fast song, but it’s also one of the most devastating (“Oh, there has only been one time where we fucked / And I felt like a bad memory, like my spine was a reminder of her”).
