Testament 2022 tour crop

Dave Lombardo is drumming in Testament again

Testament launch the rescheduled dates of their Bay Area Strikes Back tour with Exodus and Death Angel next month, but they’ll be without their legendary longtime drummer Gene Hoglan (also of Dark Angel, ex-Death, etc), who announced in January that he was leaving the band again, “moving into an exciting new chapter of my career and free agency, with all that it will entail.” They’ve now announced that his replacement will be none other than Slayer’s Dave Lombardo, joining the band for a second stint. (He was also in Testament from 98-99.)

“This is a long-awaited reunion that was bound to happen,” Lombardo says. “Once upon a time, we created a thrash masterpiece. I have no doubt that our musical chemistry will pick up exactly where we left off. I love the Testament family and am very excited to be joining them once again. Pure brutality awaits.”

“I’ll state the obvious,” Chuck Billy says, “We are more than overwhelmed to welcome back Dave Lombardo to play drums with Testament. We are so excited to share the stage again with Lombardo. Dave added immense power when he joined the band for The Gathering, and we are ecstatic to see what new flavor he will bring back to Testament.”

“Having Dave Lombardo join us again feels like we are picking up where unfinished business had left off,” Eric Peterson says. “There is a silver lining to every cloud and working again with Dave calls for us to celebrate with our horns held high!”

We never doubted Testament’s amazing hiring ability, and we can’t wait to see Dave (who was also recently drumming for the reunited Misfits and Suicidal Tendencies) play alongside Eric Peterson, Chuck Billy, Alex Skolnick, and bass legend Steve Di Giorgio (ex-Death, Sadus, etc) this spring.

Testament’s tour includes dates at Sayreville, NJ’s Starland Ballroom on April 30, Long Island’s The Paramount on May 5, and more. See all dates below.
