David Bazan resurrected Pedro the Lion in 2017 after walking away from the group -- and his faith. New documentary Strange Negotiations follows Bazan a decade into his solo career as the 2016 election looms and he begins to consider bringing his former band back. “David’s music and fan interactions center around creating a meaningful space for faith, for music, for social and political influence,” says director Brandon Vedder. “His journey represents the journey of so many who seek something beyond the veneer of American Christianity, of knee-jerk evangelical political responses, of trite and temporal answers to deep and lingering issues. I believe the film will find an audience eager for that conversation.”

The film debuted at SXSW, and screened in NYC over the summer as part of Rooftop Films; next it will be screening in select cities this fall (with Q&As with director Vedder) ahead of its digital release on November 19. Meanwhile, Pedro the Lion will play Tempe, AZ's Innings Festival in February.
