David Byrne enlists Detroit students for new video, expands tour with Tune-Yards

David Byrne has taken “Everybody’s Coming to My House,” from his new album American Utopia, and handed it over to Detroit School of Arts (DSA) Vocal Jazz Ensemble students who have performed their own verison, and was filmed in part by their classmates from the school’s Radio & Television Department. Says David:

When I saw what the DSA students did with my song, it completely changed the way I thought of it. In fact, it changed the meaning of the song—I realized it was about inclusion, welcoming, and not being alone. It’s a more generous interpretation of the song than what I do with my voice. We ARE all in the same house—if we want to be. Just goes to show how a song can change (radically!) depending on who is singing it.”

Watch that video, and stream American Utopia in full, below.

With his test run of the “untethered” American Utopia Tour a success, David is taking it to South America this week for Lollapalooza festivals there, and will be back in North America for Coachella, Governors Ball and more. His tour with Tune-Yards hits NYC for two shows in September and they’ve just added more dates, including shows in the South, NJ, CT and Albany, NY. Updated dates are listed below.
