Dead & Co announce Playing in the Sand 2019; Bob Weir expands trio tour

Dead & Company — the band featuring Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, plus John Mayer and others — will do their second annual Playing in the Sand Mexico all-inclusive concert vacation from January 17-20 in 2019. It happens at The Barceló Maya resort in Riviera Maya, and will feature three full Dead & Co shows. Here’s more:

With great pleasure, we present the second installment of Dead & Company Playing in the Sand, a 4- or 5-night all-inclusive concert vacation in Riviera Maya, Mexico featuring three nights of Dead & Company in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Our one of a kind concert venue sits along the Caribbean, providing an incredible backdrop for this very special, and very intimate event. The weekend’s performances take place at the Barceló Maya Grand, an all-inclusive resort sitting on a mile-long stretch of white sandy beach. You can reserve a room at the Barceló, or choose to stay at one of our other hand-selected resorts. Each resort features a variety of restaurants, multiple bars and daily activities, all included in your package price. Spend your days lounging by the pool and beach, or explore the nearby town of Tulum. Partake in exciting off-site adventures or sleep off the night before while soaking up some sun. Prepare yourselves for a real good time.

In addition to watching Dead & Co, as part of the package you can take part in tequila and craft beer tastings, bowling, yoga, beach games, and karaoke. There are also other activities that you can purchase.

Packages go on sale Wednesday, August 22 at 1 PM Eastern to the general public, and there’s a presale for previous attendees starting Monday, August 20 at 1 PM Eastern.

In related news, Bob Weir expanded his tour with his new trio Wolf Bros (ft. Jay Lane and Don Was), which sees Bobby “exploring the songs of the Grateful Dead and more in a trio setting.” They added new dates in Chicago, Boston, and NYC.

For NYC (and the surrounding area), Bobby now plays Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre on November 9 & 10 (tickets) and Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre on November 18 & 19. Night one at the Beacon is sold out, and night 2 tickets go on sale Friday (8/17) at 10 AM with presales starting Wednesday (8/15) at 10 AM. Updated dates are listed below.

Dead & Co also headline two nights of Lockn’ Festival, which goes down later this month. Phil Lesh is touring too, including a Central show on 9/5 (tickets).
