Dead & Company — the band featuring classic-lineup Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart (plus John Mayer and others) — recently wrapped up a stadium tour and now they’ve announced a four-day concert vacation taking place in Mexico in 2018. It has the punny title of ‘Playing in the Sand.’
Dead & Co. will take over the beach at the Barceló Maya resort in Riviera, Maya from February 15 – 18. They’ll be playing three concerts over the course of the four-day vacation. Here’s more info:
Playing in the Sand is an all-inclusive concert vacation in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. You’ll experience three Dead & Company concerts on the beach, under the stars, just steps from the Caribbean Sea.
The three nightly concerts take place at the Barceló Maya Beach resort, which sits on a mile-long stretch of white sandy beach with breathtaking landscapes and pools scattered throughout the property. You may reserve a room at the Barceló, or choose to stay at one of our other carefully selected hotels. Each resort features a variety of restaurants, bars and daily activities, all included in your vacation package. Spend your days lounging by the pool and beach, soaking up the sun, or exploring the local culture through exciting off-site adventures. Spend your nights dancing blissfully on the beach with the stars above, the wind in your hair and your toes in the sand.
Guests staying at the Barceló Maya will walk out of their rooms and take a short stroll to the beach to see the show each night. If you are staying at one of our other properties, a shuttle will deliver you to the concert area and bring you back to your resort after the show.
In addition to the Barceló Maya resort, attendees can also stay at the Hard Rock Hotel, Dreams Tulum, Rosewood Mayakoba, or Banyan Tree Mayakoba. Packages go on sale August 3 at 1 PM EST. More info HERE.
In related news, the Grateful Dead’s seventh annual ‘Meet-Up at the Movies’ event hits over 450 theaters on August 1. If you’re unfamiliar, ‘Meet-Up at the Movies’ is a screening of a Dead show, and this time it’ll feature previously-unreleased footage of the band’s July 12, 1989 show at Washington, DC’s RFK Stadium. An exclusive clip of the show has been released online and you can watch it below.
Head to the Fathom Events website to see where the film is playing by you (there are a few participating theaters in NYC). The Meet-Up takes place on Jerry Garcia’s 75th birthday.
Phil Lesh also has upcoming shows, including a Terrapin Station set with Bob Weir at Lockn’ Fest and a Central Park show on August 30 (tickets). One of the sets at the Central Park show will be a set of the Jerry Garcia Band’s music.
