Deafheaven @ 285 Kent, 7/4/2013
After a sold-out Saint Vitus show (7/2) gave way to a second show at 285 Kent (7/4), black-metal tinged shoegaze quintet Deafheaven sold-out that space too. The two dates, separated by a show in Boston at TT Bear's, were part of a larger tour for the band with special guest Marriages. Additional support at Saint Vitus on July 2 came from heavy shoegazers Nothing (featuring Nick of Whirr on guiter, they'll tour together soon) and support at 285 Kent on July 4 featured a dark ambient set from Montreal's Aun and an industrial/noise set from Brooklyn's Theologian. Pictures from both shows are in this post.
In addition to the shows, photographer Lukas Hodge spent some time embedded with the band, taking pictures of Deafheaven backstage, on the road, and at play. More pictures, an interview, and a thoughful piece on the band are available at InvisibleOranges. It's worth a look for sure.
In related news, Nothing will play a headlining show of their own tonight at Paper Box (7/8), joined by support from Lazyeyes, Turnip King, The Backhomes and Treatment. $7 gets you into this 21+ show. The band returns in one month for a show at Saint Vitus, part of a larger tour.
