Last year, Katy Davidson revived her influential Dear Nora project, along with announcing a few tour dates, which led to speculation of whether new music would soon follow. Sure enough, it was announced today that Dear Nora will be releasing Skulls Example on May 25 via Orindal Records, their first proper record since 2006's There Is No Home. According to Katy, the record's themes revolve around humanity, and the clash of futuristic ideas with nature:

Skulls Example is about how our weird, techno-futuristic present (VR, self-driving cars, drones, Tinder dates, reality TV show government, Starbucks ubiquity, iPhone as extension of human body, Blade Runner-esque income inequality, cryptocurrency "utopias", etc.) juxtaposes so absurdly against the never-ending backdrop of inexorable, ancient elements (fire, ice, wind, storms, mountains, rocks, human instinct, etc). [...] The album is specifically about humanity. Our capacities and feats are so incredible – we’re godlike – and yet we're scrounging for happiness and basic survival, we're heavily addicted, we just want love, we want family.

Dear Nora has also shared the album's breezy lead single, "Sunset on Humanity," whose lyrics reflect Katy's statement on modern technology and humanity ("I'm breathing fake air/and I believe I'm aware"). You can stream the new track, and check out the album's artwork and tracklist, below.

Dear Nora will play several North American shows on the West Coast this spring, alongside Nicholas Krgovich, Stephen Steinbrink, and Hand Habits. They'll also be playing Treefort 2018 in Boise later this month. All dates are listed below.
