Death Cab For Cutie have announced their ninth album, Thank You For Today, due August 17 via Atlantic Records. It’s the band’s first album without founding member Chris Walla (who left during the making of 2015’s Kintsugi but did contribute to that album), and their first with current touring members Dave Depper (Menomena, Fruit Bats, etc) and Zac Rae (Leonard Cohen, Lana Del Rey, My Brightest Diamond, etc) joining them in the studio. Like Kintsugi, it was produced by Rich Costey, who is the first outside producer the band has worked with.

The lead single is “Gold Rush” and it’s a laid-back dose of piano-fueled alternative rock that kinda sounds a little like late ’90s Britpop — or maybe it just feels that way because of the video’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony” vibes. Save for Ben Gibbard’s unmistakable voice, it doesn’t sound like classic Death Cab, but it’s a pretty good look for the band at this point in their career. Check it out below. They’ll be playing the song on Colbert next Thursday (6/21).

Death Cab’s upcoming tour includes Brooklyn shows at Kings Theatre on October 12 and 13 with Charly Bliss (only single-seat tickets left), and they just added second shows in Philly and Boston, which go on sale this Friday (6/15). Updated dates are listed below.
