Deer Tick, Margo Price, Anais Mitchell, Chrome Pony and Breanna Barbara played a seven hour, free show as part of the Hudson River Park RiverStage Concert Series at Pier 97 in Manhattan on Saturday (7/16). The show was put on hold due to rain about halfway through, but the weather was great overall and a great excuse to hang out on the Hudson River.

The Third Man Records-signed Margo Price, who we suspected would be huge by the time the show rolled around, is in fact still a bit under the radar which meant it was no problem at all that her set time was before Deer Tick. She and her able band effortlessly played through much of this year's great Midwest Farmer's Daughter, and more. Her tour continues through November which is when she returns to play Bowery Ballroom (tickets strangely still available).

Deer Tick played their headlining set acoustic, complete with covers of the Velvet Underground's "Pale Blue Eyes", Warren Zevon's "Lawyers, Guns and Money" and Pogues tune "Dirty Old Town". As a long time Deer Tick fan, I can say confidently that this band never disappoints, though this set was definitely on the more laid back side which matched the midtown pier's laid back vibe. Their annual Newport Folk fest afterparties this weekend are sure to be a bit more like a party.

Check out Deer Tick's setlist and photos of all the artists on the bill, including Breanna Barbara who has two more NYC shows coming up, below.

The next free concert in the Pier 97 series is on August 6th with Stax Records legend William Bell, The James Hunter Six, George Porter Jr & Runnin' Pardners, Taylor McFerrin, and DJ Jonathan Toubin.
