Deerhoof share "Come Down Here and Say That" ft. Laetitia Sadier

Deerhoof have just shared new single “Come Down Here and Say That” from their forthcoming, guest-filled album Mountain Moves which is out September 9 via Joyful Noise. The song, which has a funky, almost late-’70s feel to it, features onetime Stereolab singer/guitarist Laetitia Sadier singing the hook to the song. As for the lyrical content, it was inspired by classic Dylan doc Don’t Look Back and is decidedly political. The band told She Shreds:

The Royal Albert Hall audience is booing him for “going pop” and in a moment of quick-wittedness he says, “Come up here and say that!” Dylan was centering the young and leaving the folk purists in the dust. Now the baby boomers he sang to have gone from being radical role models to being the generation that put Trump in office. The numbers say that the young and the poor are trying to save the world, for everyone, and the boomers and the powerful are saying “You are dreaming.” Of course they say it from a safe, elitist, corporate-sponsored, media-produced distance, so we wanted to say, “Come down here and say that to our faces.”

Listen to “Come Down Here and Say That” below.

Deerhoof’s tour starts this month and makes its way to Brooklyn on October 7 at Villain with Sad13 (aka Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz) and Lily on the Horn Horse opening. Tickets are on sale. Updated tour dates are listed below.

Laetitia Sadier, meanwhile, with her band Source Ensemble, plays Jersey City’s WFMU Monty Hall tonight (8/4) with Luke Temple’s new project, Art Feynman (tickets).
