Florida rapper Denzel Curry is no stranger rap/rock crossover that doesn't suck -- he recently did a killer Rage Against the Machine cover and he's playing some of the dates on $uicideboy$' big rap/rock crossover tour with Turnstile, Trash Talk, City Morgue, and more -- and he just took that one step further with his new Spotify Singles session. He played a version of "CLOUT COBAIN" off his great 2018 album TA13OO backed by Fucked Up, and then he covered Bad Brains' "I Against I" with the actual Bad Brains backing him. "CLOUT COBAIN," which is already sort of a punk-and-emo-leaning rap song, sounds great with an added boost from Fucked Up, and the "I Against I" cover shows that Denzel is... really good at singing like Bad Brains! Move over Randy Blythe.

Denzel and Bad Brains' Darryl Jenifer also discussed the cover together for Spotify's podcast, and Denzel talks about how he's been imitating rock singers for years on his own, and how the RATM cover helped open the doors for him to do more rock. He also talks about how much of an influence Bad Brains frontman HR has been on him, and how he sees some of HR's singing as proto-rap in a way. And Darryl gave insight on the history of the song "I Against I." Listen below.

Denzel, who quickly followed TA1300 with another great album this year (ZUU), plays the Coney Island stop of the $uicideboy$ tour on August 9 with Turnstile, Trash Talk, City Morgue, and more on that very stacked bill (tickets). He'll also be back in NYC for Rolling Loud in October. All dates here.
