Devon Welsh debuted new music & new band at Park Church Co-op (pics, video)
Former Majical Cloudz singer Devon Welsh has released a few songs since the breakup of his former band, most recently “Vampires” and the soaring “I’ll Be Your Ladder”. He also announced a few tour dates, and at the first of those, on Wednesday (6/27) night, he debuted some new songs and his new band at Brooklyn’s Park Church Co-Op. It was the first show together for the four-piece and, according to Devon, his first time fronting this kind of group at all. Among the unreleased songs they played was “Summer’s End,” a song Devon said was about his father. The new material sounded more rooted in traditional instrumentation than the sometimes electronic sounds of Majical Cloudz, with the presence of a violinist as a really nice touch.
Foxes in Fiction opened Wednesday night’s show with a set that was dense with ambient layers. Check out pictures from both sets in the gallery above, and a video clip of one of Devon’s new songs below.
