This past summer, Billboard ran an article on surf rock guitar legend Dick Dale, about how he's (literally) touring to stay alive. The guitarist, who just turned 79 earlier this month, pays his medical bills with the money he makes from concert tickets and he also uses his gigs to show support to others suffering from illness. "But I’ve also got to realize I’ve been kept alive for a reason. People are not only coming to a concert, they’re coming to a way of life… where we’re willing to share what our lives are all about and how we make fun of [health issues]. It’s not ‘Oh, I’m suffering down here and you’re having a good time up there.’ I can tell ‘em how much goddam pain I’m going through ‘up there.’ I let them know: I’ve got the same crap you’ve got," he says.

Dick Dale is on tour as we speak, playing an Indialantic, FL show tonight (5/19), and he'll make his way to the Northeast this summer. He plays Asbury Park's Wonder Bar on August 25 and Brooklyn's Brooklyn Bowl on August 27 with Coffin Daggers. Tickets for NJ and NYC are on sale now.

Shows are currently scheduled all the way through October. All dates are listed, with a video of Dick playing his classic "Misirlou" in 1963, below.
