Dillinger Escape Plan

Dillinger Escape Plan playing shows; Giraffe Tongue Orchestra share song

Mathcore greats The Dillinger Escape Plan have been teasing new activity for a while now, having suggested the possibility of a new album in August and promising to play more shows (including SOS Fest).

Now some of these hazy plans are coming into view, as DEP have announced that they’ll be bringing their incomparable live show on the road this August. That includes a trip to NYC, where they’ll be tearing up Rough Trade on August 8. This is a great chance to see them in a smaller context than usual, and if you haven’t seen them (and basically regardless of your feelings about their studio material), they are an essential live band. Tickets for that show go on AmEx presale Wednesday (7/13) at noon, and on sale to the general public Friday (7/15) at noon.

Meanwhile, DEP’s Ben Weinman’s supergroup side-project Giraffe Tongue Orchestra is getting ready to release an album. That band includes Brent Hinds of Mastodon, vocalist William Duvall (Alice in Chains), drummer Thomas Pridgen (Mars Volta), and bassist Pete Griffin. They’ve shared their first single “Crucifixion,” from the album Broken Lines, which drops on September 23. It’s a catchy slice of hard-prog, motoring along with some vintage Hinds guitar playing and more than a little “Mars Volta lite” vibes. And I mean that as a compliment.

All DEP dates are listed below. Check out a video of them playing Saint Vitus last year, along with that Giraffe Tongue Orchestra track, below.
