Mid-oughts band Dios, who changed their name to Dios (Malos) after Ronnie James Dio got mad (and then changed it back), caused a stir with their 2004 debut which was full of lightly psychedelic, Beach Boys-indebted pop. “You’ve Got Me All Wrong,” from the LP, was included on the second The O.C. soundtrack and the band followed up quickly the next year with a second album that wasn’t quite as charming. It was a slow fade from there, having released a third album, We Are Dios, in 2010 before fizzling out shortly after.

The band reformed in 2014 for a show celebrating the release of their debut LP, which got a cassette reissue via Burger. Then this spring, Dios quietly, officially reactivated. A new single, “Life Between the Tides,” came out over the summer and isn’t oceans away from Kurt Vile (by way of OK Computer). It’s said to be the title track from the band’s new album. A second new single, “Ain’t Nothing Here to Bother You No More,” is more promising, the kind of pop they used to do and the kind that probably influenced bands like The Growlers. You can stream both of those, and revisit their debut LP, below.

Main man Joel Morales says the new record features Clementine Creevy from Cherry Glazerr and Paige Stark from Tashaki Miyaki, two bands he’s worked with as a recording engineer. The band just played Desert Daze in Joshua Tree as you can see in the above picture. Welcome back, Dios.
