Dixie Chicks change their name to The Chicks
Long-running country superstars Dixie Chicks have changed their name to The Chicks as of today. There has been no official statement but the group's website and social media accounts have all been changed to The Chicks, with a quote reading "We want to rise up and meet this moment" below their name.
"Dixie" is a term that is associated with the South and the Confederacy. The news comes not long after Lady Antebellum changing their name to Lady A, acknowledging the word "Antebellum"'s ties to slavery.
The Chicks have also just released a new single, "March March," which is on their upcoming album Gaslighter (out 7/16), and its video includes footage of protests and lists George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks and many many more Black people who have been killed by police, in big type, through the last minute or so of the video, and puts links to a number of charities at the end. They write “Use your VOICE. Use your VOTE." Watch that video below.
