DMX playing NYC w/ Soul Rebels, going on Gods of Rap tour w/ Nas, Gang Starr, more
The iconic rapper, 49, performed in Reno and Las Vegas on Dec. 28 and 29, running his greatest hits for an enthusiastic crowd. He arrived at the Hakkasan Nightclub in Vegas around 2 a.m. on the 29th, with a small entourage that included his fiancée Desiree Lindstrom, “who he was very affectionate towards the entire night,” a source told Page Six.
DMX, real name Earl Simmons, was noticeably not seen drinking, “sipping on Fiji water” instead and smoking cigarettes. He “seemed fresh and energetic,” according to a source, “posing for photos with fans, shaking hands during the performance and even staying after his performance ended, dancing with [Lindstrom] in the DJ booth.”
X performed for even longer than he was scheduled for, telling the crowd “I could never just play a couple songs.” [Page Six]
Last fall, DMX had to cancel his Rolling Loud NYC set at the last minute to enter rehab, but as reported by Page Six and quoted above, he returned to the stage at the tail-end of last year and seems to be doing great. He’s now got more upcoming shows scheduled, including his first NYC appearance since cancelling Rolling Loud.
X will be joining NOLA brass band The Soul Rebels on stage at night one of their two-night stand at Brooklyn Bowl, which goes down on March 13 & 14. X has played with The Soul Rebels before, and it’s always a good time — watch a video of one of their past collabs below. The guests for The Soul Rebels’ 3/14 show are still TBA. X is also set to play his first UK shows in over 15 years on the second Gods of Rap UK mini-tour alongside Nas, The LOX (Jadakiss, Styles P, Sheek Louch), and a Gang Starr set with surviving member DJ Premier, a live band, and a “visual experience, which pays tribute to original founding member Guru.” (DJ Premier recently released Gang Starr’s first album in 16 years, One of the Best Yet.)
