"There might be some way for some person not to enjoy a concert by a musical legend like Dolly Parton, who still has her full vocal range even as her contemporaries are heading into retirement or worse. Perhaps someone who only appreciates songs that sound exactly like they do on the CD, or who prefers their artists sing song after song and leave the stage with barely an acknowledgment of the audience, would be disappointed that Parton manages to find nuances in her own work that many fans won’t have heard before and mines covers of her work for inspiration – such as Norah Jones’s jazzy version of The Grass Is Blue.

But who, after being told by Parton how much she appreciated their fandom, would dare admit that?" [The Guardian]

Dolly Parton is currently on her Pure & Simple tour, her biggest tour in more than 20 years. Its latest leg wrapped up in Pittsburgh last night (6/28), after hitting NYC on Saturday (6/25) for a show at Queens' Forest Hills Stadium. The tour picks up again in mid-July in Cedar Rapids, IA. From there she has dates scheduled across North America until December. All remaining dates are listed below.

In her two hour long concert in Queens, Dolly played at least eight instruments, repeatedly gave statements of love and pride to her LGBT fans, and sang all her hits just the way you remember them. As the Guardian review quoted above points out, she even rolled out her classic joke: "You know what I say, it takes a lot of money to look this cheap." Her setlist from that show is below. A video of her singing "Jolene" that night as well as some photos from the concert are also below.

She'll be releasing a double-disc album called Pure & Simple with Dolly's Biggest Hits on August 26, with The Complete Trios, a compilation with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris, to be released on September 9.
