Donovan Sunshine Superman

Donovan on "Sunshine Superman" 50th anniversary tour (video, setlist, dates)

Legendary singer/songwriter Donovan remains active, and he’s currently on a North American tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of his classic 1966 single “Sunshine Superman.” That single — and the album of the same name — marked the beginnings of his transition from Dylan-esque folk to psychedelic pop, and it remains a truly essential nugget from the original psych era. The tour began in East Hampton, NY on August 30, and so far it’s hit places like Iowa’s FairFest in early September and NJ’s South Orange Performing Arts Center this past Sunday (9/11). Going by the setlist from the NJ show, he’s keeping things almost entirely to his ’60s era (not a bad thing at all). Check out that setlist, and a video of him playing “Sunshine Superman” at FairFest, below.

The tour is back in New York this week, hitting Troy tonight (9/14). The next night, Donovan hits NYC’s Carnegie Hall (9/15), which there is “limited availability” for. He’ll be a quick train ride away from NYC on Sunday (9/18) at Paramount Theater in Peekskill, and tickets for that one are still available. The tour then treks on, and it comes back to this area for another NJ show on November 30 at Bergen PAC. No ticket link exists for that one yet, but the venue site will presumably have one soon. All remaining dates on the “Sunshine Superman” 50th anniversary tour are listed below.

Last year, The Flaming Lips, Sharon Van Etten, Hamilton Leithauser and others honored Donovan with a tribute album.
