Dungen reissuing 'Haxan' LP, performing it live on tour with 'Prince Achmed' film screening

You may recall that jazzy Swedes Dungen wrote and recorded a new score for Lotte Reiniger’s 1926 film The Adventures of Prince Achmed (generally regarded to be the oldest surviving full-length animated feature film) which was released as a Record Store Day Black Friday album, Haxan. It’s a gorgeous album which is now, deservingly, getting a proper release via Mexican Summer on February 3 in a deluxe package including a bonus 12″ and a new booklet with liner notes from the band and other essays. Preorders are up now and you can stream the original Haxan below.

As mentioned, Dungen will be in the U.S. this spring as the band’s Gustav Ejstes and Reine Fisketo will be collaborating with Woods’ Jeremy Earl and Jarvis Taveniere for a recording residency during Martha Myths.  Following that, Dungen will tour Haxan, performing the score live to a screening of the film at art spaces in select cities. The NYC stop happens March 16 at BRIC House, with shows at 7:30 and 9:30. Tickets to both are on sale now.
