Dylan Shearer releasing new LP on Castle Face featuring Petey Dammit of Thee Oh Sees (stream 2 tracks)
by Bill Pearis
San Francisco songwriter Dylan Shearer makes the sort of somber pop that sounds like rain. There's a distinct Englishness to it, too, that has drawn comparisons to Soft Machine's Kevin Ayers and Robert Wyatt and that is definitely in the right ballpark. (Elliot Smith could be a more recent comparison.) Shearer's new album, garragearray, was aided by Thee Oh Sees' Petey Dammit on bass and Comets on Fire's Noel von Harmonson on drums. It's out next week (4/15) via Cellar Records/Castle Face. We've got the premiere of the lovely "Mold in the Fold" and you can stream that in this post, along with another cut from the LP.
