El-P looking for 50 people in the NYC area for his new video, almost didn’t produce Killer Mike’s album
El-P in Austin in June (more by Tim Griffin)
El-P, who put out the excellent Cancer 4 Cure album earlier this year is filming a new video for one of the tracks off that album, "Stay Down." The video will be produced by Pitchfork.tv and will be filmed this Friday (9/7) in NYC and El-P wants 50 fans in the area to be in it. He initially wanted all females, but has since changed his mind and will accept guys as well. If you want to be one of those 50 fans, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
El-P and Despot also recently teamed up to freestyle for an episode of Pitchfork.tv's "Selector." You can watch the video of that below.
In related news, in addition to El-P's own album this year, you may remember that he also produced Killer Mike's also excellent R.A.P. Music. Though as he admitted in a recent interview with Fuse, the collaboration almost didn't happen:
"We hooked up through a mutual friend at Adult Swim," El-P says of meeting Killer Mike. "I went down to Atlanta and we just hit it off. It was instantaneous. We were immediately friends, we were immediately having fun and we were immediately making what we thought was exciting music. And they stepped to me and said, 'Yo, do the whole record,' and I was like, 'No.'"
"Over a period of a couple months they just wore me down. I couldn't front on it. I was trying to do my record so I was like, 'I can't put the time in,' but we just had so much fun. [I realized] we gotta do it."
Late last month, Killer Mike dropped a video for "Untitled" from that album, which you can watch below. He'll be back in NYC when his tour with GZA (performing Liquid Swords), Sweet Valley, and Bear Hands hits Irving Plaza on October 18 during CMJ.
