What happened with Jay? I know he was a big fan before he joined, and he always seemed so thrilled to be in the band. When I saw him play with the band, he was always mouthing the lyrics while drumming.
To be honest, I have no idea. He never said a word. I just woke up one morning and read on Twitter that he was leaving the band.

Really?
Never talked to him since. [SPIN]

You may remember that Against Me!‘s lineup changed during the Transgender Dysphoria Blues sessions, including the departure of drummer Jay Weinberg (son of E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg), who quit via Twitter without explanation, as the SPIN interview quoted above points out. Jay (who also is/was in Hesitation Wounds with Touche Amore singer Jeremy Bolm) was recently announced as the new Slipknot drummer, and as Property of Zack points out, AM! singer Laura Jane Grace has since tweeted her best wishes to the band: “Dear Slipknot, good luck with that. #shitbag.”

Against Me! were recently in NYC for a last-minute intimate midnight show at Baby’s All Right this past Sunday (9/14) after their big NJ and Philly shows with The Gaslight Anthem and Jimmy Eat World. They went on closer to 1 AM than midnight, but even though one would assume the majority of the crowd would be getting up for work or school in the next few hours, the place was sold out, packed and mostly going absolutely nuts for the whole set. LJG was in skeleton facepaint for the show, and in great spirits, interacting with more than one of the crowd members who ran up on stage during their set.

In other AM!-related news, another former drummer Warren Oakes’ new band Sunshine State released a new song today.
