Flaming Lips cover Bowie’s “Space Oddity” for new single, playing it on ‘Colbert’, have 2 #RSD16 releases
The Flaming Lips have been playing a lot of Bowie songs live this year in tribute to the late singer, and they also played both recent NYC Bowie tribute shows. Now they've recorded "Space Oddity" and released it as a digital single. If you didn't already make the connection to the band's rennaisence period (Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi) and The Thin White Duke, then this Lips-y take on Bowie classic will pull it all into focus. The band will play it live on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on April 19 so set those DVRs. The Flaming Lips also have two Record Store Day exclusive releases coming out tomorrow. One is Heady Nuggs Vol.II Studio Albums 2006 - 2012, an eight LP box includes the albums At War With The Mystics, Christmas On Mars, Embryonic, The Dark Side Of The Moon and The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. There's also Lightning Strikes The Postman, a CD that is an alternate mix of the Clouds Taste Metallic album featuring ex-Flaming Lips guitarist, Ronald Jones, and comes with an original comic written and illustrated by Wayne Coyne.
