The Music of David Lynch

Flaming Lips, Karen O, Duran Duran & more on 'The Music of David Lynch' live LP + other Lynch-related news & happenings

Back in April of 2015, a concert called “The Music of David Lynch” happened at Los Angeles’ The Theatre at Ace Hotel that featured frequent David Lynch collaborator Angelo Badalamenti along with a bunch of other musicians performing  songs that have featured prominently in Lynch’s films and television series, such as Duran Duran, Flaming Lips, Karen O, Lykke Li, Sky Ferreira, Zola Jesus, Chrysta Bell, Donovan, Jim James, Moby, Tennis,  Rebekah Del Rio and, in a booking that just had to happen, Chicago band Twin Peaks. That concert will soon be a double album, out April 15 and its proceeds go to benefit the David Lynch Foundation. Pre-orders are available and you can watch video of Lykke Li and Zola Jesus from the concert and check out the album’s tracklist below.

While we eagerly await the new episodes of Twin Peaks, there are other Lynchian things happening. New documentary My Beautiful Broken Brain follows a stroke survivor who contextualizes the problems she faces in recovery by comparing her perspective to being a David Lynch movie, eventually meeting the man himself. The film, which was also produced by Lynch, been getting positive reviews since it was released, being characterized as a very difficult but ultimately rewarding watch. It’s on Netflix now. Watch the trailer below.

The 30th anniversary of Lynch’s classic Blue Velvet is also this year, and NYC’s Film Forum is currently screening the film in celebration. That only lasts through Thursday, March 31, so get there while you can. More screenings of the movie are expected later this year, as it gets closer to the film’s official September birthday.

Back to Twin Peaks, while very little official info has been announced, Showtime president David Nevins recently suggested that the new episodes could screen in movie theaters as well. In the meantime, Videology in Williamsburg wraps up it’s Twin Peaks Bingo series tonight (3/30) with the show’s ultra-weird, ultra-awesome finale. And in just a couple weeks will see the release of Xiu Xiu reimagined Twin Peaks soundtrack on Record Store Day.
