Fleet Foxes played Newport Folk Festival (pics, video), win tickets to NYC show

Fleet Foxes headlined the first night of Newport Folk Festival on Friday (7/28), part of their world tour in support of their first album in six years, Crack-Up. Their set focused on the new songs but didn’t neglect older favorites, like “White Winter Hymnal,” which Phish recently covered during their “Bakers Dozen” run at Madison Square Garden. (Fleet Foxes returned the favor by covering “Bouncing Around the Room.”) Pictures from Fleet Foxes’ Newport set are in the gallery above, and you can watch video clips below.

Newport Folk Festival continues all weekend; check out our pictures from Friday HERE, Saturday HERE, and stay tuned for more.

Fleet Foxes’ tour continues after Newport; they play a couple of shows with Animal Collective before heading to Brooklyn on Tuesday (8/1) for two BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival shows at Prospect Park August 1-2 with (Sandy) Alex G. Tickets are on sale, and BrooklynVegan is also giving away a pair of tickets to the August 2 show.
