After talking about it for a while, Foxing are finally ready to release their anticipated third album, the followup to 2015’s great Dealer. It’s called Nearer My God and it’s due out August 10 via Triple Crown (pre-order). Produced by former Death Cab For Cutie guitarist Chris Walla and the band’s own Eric Hudson, with help from Hop Along’s Joe Reinhart, the new album is a huge step up and a significant change in direction from anything they’ve done before, while still sounding unmistakably like Foxing. The first taste is “Slapstick,” which does a fine job of easing you in to the new sound. It starts off not entirely removed from the Foxing of Dealer, but then glitchy electronics and manipulated vocals enter the picture, before the song finds room for a massive rock chorus, Mew-ish dream pop, and a combination of all those various parts. It’s like the last decade of indie — from the real anthemic, festival-ready rock to the minimal, R&B-inspired stuff — all rolled into one, and it sounds suited for no other time than right now.

The song comes with a video written and directed by former Foxing member Josh Coll (who also did all the videos for the new Wonder Years album). “When you have five minutes to tell a story, the how’s and why’s of the narrative quickly become the most inconsequential elements –– audiences are imaginative enough to fill in the backstory. What matters is that our two characters –– who are clearly alone in the bunker–– are friends who depend on each other for survival,” Josh says of the video. Watch below.

Foxing are going on a co-headlining UK/EU tour with Pianos Become the Teeth (who released Wait For Love earlier this year) in August, and they also just announced a headlining North American tour happening right afterwards.

The North American dates hit NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on September 4. Tickets for that show (and the whole tour) go on sale Friday (6/22) at 10 AM local time. All dates are listed below.
