The 33 1/3 book series is presenting a Northside showcase featuring cover sets by Frankie Cosmos and Ava Luna at Rough Trade on June 11. Frankie Cosmos is playing songs from Liz Phair's iconic Exile in Guyville (which should suit her style well) and Ava Luna are playing songs from Serge Gainsbourg's 1971 pervy masterpiece Histoire de Melody Nelson. Tickets go on sale Friday (4/15) at noon, and you can also get in using a Northside badge.
In 33 1/3 related news, if you've been considering writing your own 33 1/3, the submission process has undergone some slight changes. They say:
We’re changing up the proposal decision-making process a bit and handing the reins over to a few incredibly qualified and talented individuals bringing with them impressive backgrounds in academia and music/culture writing. This is a way for us to gain some fresh perspective for the series, and to keep the series growing and changing in interesting directions.
The series' new editors are Kevin Dettmar, Amanda Petrusich, Gayle Wald, and Daphne Brooks. Instead of doing an open call, they will be accepting proposals on a rolling basis. You can submit to firstname.lastname@example.org. More info can be found here.
