Fruit Bats announce first album for Merge, touring

Eric D. Johnson’s long-running indie folk project Fruit Bats signed to Merge last year, and now they’re set to release their new album Gold Past Life on June 21 via their new label home (pre-order). The first single is the laid-back “The Bottom Of It,” which EDJ says is “a song about simple victories, told a little bit through the notion of finding strange and fortuitous totems (round stones, turkey feathers, dead deer) and keeping them as trophies.” Listen below

Fruit Bats have also announced a tour, surrounding their appearances at Huichica Fest, Red Wing Roots Music Festival, MRG30, Pickathon, and Railbird Festival.

The newly-added dates include Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on July 27. Tickets for that show go on AmEx presale today (4/3) at noon and the public on-sale starts Friday (4/5) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
