garage rocker Dan Sartain goes synthpop on new LP (listen)

by Bill Pearis

Dan Sartain

You may know Dan Sartain for his crazed, rockabilly-inflected low-fi punk that has landed him shows/tours with Social Distortion, Hot Snakes, and others. But on his new album, Century Plaza, he’s put down the guitar and picked up a keyboard. As the cover art above hints at, Dan is dabbling in early-’80s synthpop here — albeit in his own particular style. It’s a natural match, actually, that would fit in between Suicide and Silicon Teens on a mixtape. He made the whole album on on iPad and, apart from a wild guitar solo on “First Bloods,” it’s wholly synthetic. The album is out this Friday (2/19) via One Little Indian but you can listen to it right now — a stream of the whole thing premieres in this post. Switch on below…
