Gauche (mems Priests, Downtown Boys) sign to Merge, share new single, touring

DC group Gauche, which includes the core trio of Priests drummer Daniele Yandel, Downtown Boys’ Mary Jane Regalado and and Jason P Barnett, have signed with Merge Records and will release their full-length debut via the label later this year. Not too far from the post-punk sounds Priests make, Gauche are a little more on the agit, noisy, shouty side. Says Merge PR, Gauche “redefines the position of women, appearing as an ode to beauty and feminine energy. A manifesto in the form of mythology; each song a new myth, a new possibility for existence within alienating and consumerist society, like a new religion, Goddess Worship.” You can check out the video for new single “Conspiracy Theories,” which rails against Alex Jones and his ilk, and stream their 2015 tape Getting Away with Gauche, below.

Gauche will be on tour this spring, including shows in Philly, Brooklyn, Boston, Burlington, Montreal, Toronto, Pittsburgh and Washington DC. The Brooklyn show is March 30 at Alphaville with Pearie Sol and Privacy Issues (tickets).

The band will be in Brooklyn before that, playing Secret Project Robot on January 24 with Sediment Club and Alice Cohen, which is part of a new series presented by zine The Baffler called “The Bad Society.” There will also be readings from Baffler contributors Lauren Oyler and Kate Wagner (tickets).
